Unpairing and repairing solved this one for me and it's been all fine and dandy since. So it DOES seem good although I once had this glitch where the stereo image was all over the place and the AA was on. I checked with Harman customer support and according to them this is now the intended function (although now they seemed to be oblivious to the whole debackle despite my using the same case number). "Aha, you're done? Cool, no need to pass the external sounds anymore." When I put the other bud back in my ear, the Ambient Sound Control / Ambient Aware or whateverthefuck it's called turns off again. "Oh, you need to talk to someone for a bit? Lemme help you with that: now you hear with both ears while wearing only one bud!" If I take off one bud, the function kicks in and lets the ambient sounds through the remaining earphone. It attempts to make it so that you only have to take one headphone off at, say, at the register of a shop. What happens now is that, the Ambient Sound Control thingy is off AND STAYS OFF.īut there's a case where it turns out automatically: I got my JBL Reflect Mini NC back from service about a month back and something has changed. This means: AA / ANC turning on is a bug.įeel free to use this information any way you see fit. JBL Customer Care states it's a feature, not a bug - while their Key Account Manager in the Nordic Countries says it's not how it's supposed to work. What we have here is a setup that does does not appear to work as intended. So when I blew this open to the customer care and my own seller - Citymarket - JBL/Harman admitted my device to service again. they also confirmed that this functionality is not stated in the technical specifications. Verkkokauppa's understanding of the feature concurred with mine, whereas Gigantti vaguely said these devices sometimes have this type of features BUT. I also consulted two stores, Verkkokauppa and Gigantti in Finland, for their knowledge of this device. The application is available for download at the Play Store and the App Store. Instead, they must be activated again from the application. Once deactivated, the device will not reactivate these functions. The feature the customer refers to, Ambient Aware / ANC, can be deactivated from the JBL Headphones application. Sovellus on ladattavissa Play Kaupasta, sekä App Storesta. Tällöin laite ei uudelleen käynnistyessään aktivoi näitä tiloja, vaan ne on käynnistettävissä uudelleen sovelluksen kautta. However, the Key Account Manager at Harman Consumer Division Nordic A/S stated the following in an email (this is a translation):Īsiakkaan mainitsema ominaisuus Ambient Aware / ANC on kytkettävissä pois päältä JBL Headphones –sovelluksen kautta. JBL customer stated that, this is a feature. So my headphones are JBL Reflect Mini NC. I never had any intention of talking to Google Assistant, but this is now the most convenient path to make my brand new earbuds usable.ĪN UPDATE YOU GUYS MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN. Normally anyone would just choose playback control, but you also want to be able to turn off Ambient mode without opening the app, so either one of the first two options involves a sacrifice. You can only choose one of these options (for each earbud). You can use the app to setup the button to control playback, control Ambient mode, or control the Voice Assistant. So since I only ever use one earbud at a time I do not have access to Noise Cancellation, which is quite a frustrating tease, and I would otherwise need to open up the app to turn off Ambient mode every time I connect to a device if I want decent audio.Įach earbud has one button. However, when only using a single earbud, the software disables Noise Cancellation and automatically turns on Ambient Aware every time you connect to a device. But let's review the problem here.Īmbient Mode allows you to use either Noise Cancellation (which improves the natural sound) or Ambient Aware (which clutters the natural sound with outdoor noise). I would return these things if I could, but I'm away from home so I can't. I found some details about voice commands in the JBL app (Support>FAQ>Voice-Assistant related questions), but I can't find the same information online. You can tell Google vocally to "turn off ambient mode" and also whatever playback commands you want. Use the app to change your gestures to Voice Assistant. Since it looks like there is no solution, I did figure out a workaround.
